  • Name Change: The Benjamin SCHMALZ family name was changed from SCHMALZ to SMALL, September 3, 1955.
  • Employment: Construction Business. Richard owned a construction business as well as a building supply business until he retired. After retiring his four sons took over the business.

    Richard and his sons founded Cleveland Construction in December of 1980. The first year of hard work generated modest sales for their Mentor, Ohio based company. In two short years, Cleveland Construction was incorporated and became Cleveland Construction, Inc. or CCI, as it is more commonly known. As the steady growth of CCI continued, Richard Small decided to expand beyond the Greater Cleveland Area. In 1986, their first branch office was established in Cincinnati, Ohio. In rapid succession, offices were added in Columbus, Ohio: Orlando, Florida: and Raleigh, North Carolina. Cleveland Construction, Inc. engaged in construction projects nationally and abroad. CCI grew to become a major force in the construction industry.
