- Obituary: Currior News Online, June 22, 2012, Paris, Arkansas. PARIS \emdash Josephine Marie Schmalz, 94, of Ratcliff passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Greenhurst Nursing Center in Charleston.
She was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Franklin County to the late Joseph Mahl and Rebecca (Stubblefield) Mahl.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Edward Schmalz; and her five siblings, Raphael, Beatrice, Gladys, Andrew and Richard.
Josephine was a homemaker. She also worked at Lady Fair Mills and at the Paris Pant Factory. She was a member of the Mother's Society, St. Anthony Church Choir and member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Ratcliff.
Rosary service will be 7 p.m. today at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Paris.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Ratcliff with Father Eugene Luke, O.S.B. officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Paris under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Anhalt and husband Bill of Russellville and Jo Ann Bolick and husband David of Little Rock; two sons, Clark Schmalz and wife Marguerite of Fort Smith and Mark Schmalz of Ratcliff; eight grandchildren, Amy Bray, Shelley Hartsock, Wendy Moss, Robin Farnam, Kevin Schmalz, Holly Komp, Dustin Anhalt and Heather Bolick; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and sons-in-law, Dustin Anhalt, Kevin Schmalz, Jason Komp, Trey Farnam, Paul Hartsock, Bill Anhalt, Mark Moss and Mike Bray.
Family will visit with friends following the Rosary service at the funeral home in Paris.
Josephine married Albert Edward SCHMALZ, son of Frank M. SCHMALZ and Carolina S. "Lena" SEIFERT, on October 19, 1937 in Ratcliff, Logan, Arkansas, USA.
